DISC analysis

Sometimes, a development question can benefit from the use of the DISC analysis. This is a tool that allows you to easily and quickly map your behavioral and communication preferences, both conscious and unconscious. Your profile provides a starting point for gaining more insight into your strengths and challenges, discovering where your “allergies” lie, how you make decisions, and the way you like to collaborate. With this knowledge, you can build on your strengths and improve areas of attention. It also reveals where you gain energy and where you lose it, allowing you to make more conscious decisions for the future.

In addition to the tools it provides for personal development, it can also improve your collaboration with others. Why does working with that one colleague always go smoothly without effort, while conversations with another seem so difficult? A DISC analysis also gives you insight into others’ styles and preferences, how you come across in your communication, and how they respond to that. Besides increasing your understanding of your colleagues or others around you, you will also communicate more effectively yourself. This leads to a more enjoyable collaboration and better results.

Examples of questions or dilemmas where a DISC analysis is useful:

  • How can I get people on board with my ideas?
  • I feel like I’m not utilizing all my talents.
  • What are my strengths and pitfalls in dealing with others?
  • Why is our collaboration so strained?
  • Which roles suit the people in my team? Who can I approach for what?
  • How can I increase connection and safety among my colleagues?
  • I’m not getting energy from my current work environment.

motivational analysis

Where the DISC analysis focuses on the ‘what’, motivational drivers focus on the ‘why’. They are the ‘motive’ behind behavior. They determine what truly interests you, what you value, and what energizes you. This can result in two people in the same situation behaving completely differently, even though they share the same DISC style. However, because drivers are far less visible than behavior, you’re often unaware of them. Becoming conscious of the lens through which you view the world and what you find important brings immense value. This awareness allows you to identify energy leaks and makes it easier to align your personal wishes with the possibilities and needs of your organization. It also reveals areas where further development is possible and realistic. In this way, a win-win situation emerges, where you can maximize your potential, and your employer reaps the benefits. These insights save you many years of ‘trial and error’, enabling you to work more purposefully towards a job that you truly perform with passion.

In a team, knowing each other’s drivers helps to understand what motivates others to take action. Friction is reduced, mutual collaboration improves, and everyone’s contribution to the team increases. This way, all the available drivers can be used optimally, allowing your team to grow together.
